Special Education Advocate

The world of special education takes parenting to a whole new level.

Being a parent is a challenging job. When you are navigating school with a child who has a disability, this exponentially increases the challenges. The IEP and 504 process brings a whole new world of information you need to know and decisions you need to make. A Special Education Advocate can provide the support you need to tackle this challenge.

As a parent of two children with learning disabilities, I am all too familiar with the stress and struggles of ensuring students get the services they need. Though parents are equal members of the team making these decisions, it is easy to feel out of place and overwhelmed during meetings. My goal is to bridge the gap between parents and the school professionals on the team. This will allow the team to achieve the best plan to meet your child’s needs.

The biggest challenge for parents in this process is that you don’t know what you don’t know. As a special education advocate, I can help you understand your rights, ensure that your knowledge of your child is a part of the discussion, and work beside you each step of the way. It’s hard to be an “equal” on a team when you don’t have all the information you need.
